Obituary

Rev. Virgil Ball, age 85, of Brookville, Indiana went to meet Jesus Tuesday morning October 2, 2018 at his residence on Oxford Pike in Brookville.

Born October 3, 1932 in Clay County, Kentucky he was one of seven children born to the late William G. & Victoria (Napier) Ball.  He was a graduate of Clay County High School with the Class of 1952, and went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University, and graduated with an Associates Degree in Divinity from Cincinnati Bible College.  On April 5, 1958 in Whitcomb, Indiana he and the former Ileen Shafer were united in marriage, and she survives.

Virgil was retired, having served as Pastor of the former Mt. Carmel Baptist Temple; and had also worked for many years at Cincinnati Incorporated.  In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting & fishing, talking and storytelling, gardening and flowers, and most of all companionship with family and friends.  Education was important to him and he believed that you should try and learn something new every day.

He was a member of the Brookville Road Baptist Church, a 65 year member and office holder of Harmony #11 F. & A.M.; member and office holder of the Brookville Order of Eastern Star Chapter #449; Worthy Patron of Rising Sun #326 Order of Eastern Star, and a member and office holder at Lawrenceburg #427 Order of Eastern Star.  He was also a member of the Knights Templar, and had been bestowed the Honor of Kentucky Colonel.

Besides Ileen, his loving wife of over 60 years, survivors include his daughter, Marcia Ball of Brookville; his "Adopted Daughters" Patricia Woods of Bath, Indiana, Marie Bonnlander of Greensburg, Indiana, Judith Hathaway of Oxford, Ohio and Cindy Trosper of Miamitown, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Ball of West Harrison, Indiana; as well as many nieces nephews & cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Ethel Ball, Hazel Holcomb, and Mary Sandlin; brothers, Oakley Ball, Henry L. Ball, and Estill Ball; adopted daughter, Elaine "Chip" Woods.

Family & friends may visit from 4 until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville, where Eastern Star Memorial Services will begin at 7:30 P.M., immediately followed by Masonic Memorial Services.

Mitchell Ball, Roy VanWinkle, and Tim Ball will officiate the Funeral Services on Saturday, October 6, 2018, 10:30 A.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery in Bath, Indiana.
