Robert D. Runyon, age 82, of Brookville died Saturday, October 21, 2023 following a lengthy illness.
Born August 11, 1941 in Gary, Indiana he was the son of the late Floyd N. & Freda Emma (Speer) Runyon. He was a graduate of the former Brookville High School in Brookville. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent three years stationed in Hawaii. On June 6, 1970 he and the former Linda Ball were united in marriage, and she survives.
He went to work for the City of Connersville Utilities in 1970, and retired after 37 years of service. While employed there he served as a Union Steward for the Local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for many years and was Chairman of the union for four years. He served on Franklin County Council from 2003 until 2006.
He was a member of the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, and the Indiana Sheriff's Association. In his leisure time he enjoyed reading & poetry, genealogy, and antiques. In his younger years he enjoyed running and was an avid runner.
He was a long time member of the Andersonville Christian Church. He truly loved the Lord Jesus Christ and always shared the Lord's Gospel and biblical wisdom with whomever would be wise enough to listen.
Besides Linda, his loving wife of 53 years, survivors include a son, Andrew Steven Runyon of Andersonville, Indiana; a daughter, Kristina Marie Runyon of Brookville, Indiana; two granddaughters and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, James Matthew Runyon and David Anthony Runyon; as well as his brother, William C. Runyon.
Everett Quinton will officiate the Graveside Services at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hopewell Cemetery in Rush County, Indiana where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion.
