LeRoy Simonson, age 95, of Brookville, Indiana died Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Shawneespring of Harrison Healthcare Center in Harrison, Ohio.
Born December 14, 1924 in Hamburg, Ohio he was the son of the late Henry Abner & Gladys Ellison (McAllister) Simonson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 508 TH Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82 ND Airborne Division, having been awarded the Distinguished Unit Badge as well as the Purple Heart.
On December 14, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Edna Louise Wright, and she preceded him in death on February 16, 1999.
LeRoy was retired from Cincinnati Gas & Electric where he worked for many years as supervisor of the coal yard, and as a tug boat operator. He was a member of the Addyston Baptist Church in Addyston, Ohio, a past president of the North Dearborn High School Booster Club, as well as a member of the American Legion in Cleves, Ohio.
Survivors include a daughter, Laurel Elliston Adams of Florida; two sons, Kimber Simonson of Brookville, Indiana and Shawn Simonson of Bright, Indiana; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia, Norma Jean and Luana.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores and Mary Alice; as well as three brothers; Robert, Henry and Jerry.
Family & friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
A Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home. Burial with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion will follow in Sims Cemetery.
