Born February 10, 1946 in Cottage Grove, Indiana he was the son of the late Charles & Effie Bell (Starnes) Gross. On July 20, 1974 he was united in marriage to the former Marlene Roth, and she survives.
James was retired and had formerly worked for Rumpke, and farmed in Union county. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting & fishing, and tinkering and repairing lawnmowers.
Besides Marlene his wife of nearly 45 years, survivors include a son, Jessie Gross of Liberty, Indiana; sisters, Mabel (Charlie) Bailey, Lena Bertsch, Ruth Ann (David) VanWinkle, Mary Lou (Jake) Pace, and Penny Sue; brothers Phillip (Marilyn) Gross, Donald (Kathy) Gross.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabitha Gross who died in 1981; as well as three brothers, Charles William (Bud) Gross, Gene Gross, and Jerry Gross.
Family & friends may visit from 4 until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Rev. Roy VanWinkle, pastor of Brookville Road Baptist Church will officiate the Funeral Services at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, June 3, 2019, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, with burial following in Big Cedar Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
