Obituary

Betty Jean (Kile) Patterson, age 81, of Palmetto Bay, Florida, and a former long time resident of Brookville, Indiana passed away at home on October 5, 2015. Jean was born in Greensburg, Indiana, on July 16, 1934, to Inez and Clifford Weisner. She graduated from Greensburg Community High School. Jean moved to Brookville in the 1960s when her husband, Daniel, was offered a teaching/coaching position at Brookville High School. Jean worked for many years and in many capacities at FCN Bank, retiring in 2013. She was a member of the Brookville United Methodist Church and served her community in a number of civic organizations including United Way of Franklin County and the Franklin County Housing Authority Board. In 2013, Jean was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Gene Patterson, whom she married and joined in retirement in Palmetto Bay, Florida. Jean adapted well to retirement in South Florida, enjoying the continuous presence of trees and flora blooming in beautiful semi-tropical conditions. Her life had been filled with times of tremendous joy and other times of extreme challenges. Jean's ability to overcome personal adversity gave rise to a credo of: "Pray, cry, and get on with life." Because they recognized this inner strength, numerous individuals sought her solace and counsel when dealing with difficulties in their own lives. Jean's innate ability to reach out to anyone she met with kindness and care had not diminished in recent years. In slightly over two years, she was able to form strong bonds of friendship with anyone in this community who spent time with her. Jean's passing will create a void in the lives of many people. As was the case in Jean's own personal adversity, it will be resolved by their faith. Jean loved her family above all else and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother ( MauMau ) and great grandmother. Jean is survived by her husband, Gene Patterson; her grandchildren, Daniel (Callie) Gartenman, Cassandra (Andrew) Bear and Hallie Kile; and great-granddaughter, Ruby Bear. In addition, surviving siblings are Patty (Robert) Strasburger, Mary (Robert) Yoder, and Clifford (Ruth Ann) Weisner. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dan; her daughters, Mandy and Kitty; her son, Joe; and her granddaughter, Jessica. Rev. Donald Miller will officiate the Funeral services at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 17th at the Brookville United Methodist Church; 150 East 8th Street, Brookville, Indiana. Burial will then follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville.
