Mattie Mae (Sandlin) Wells, age 97, of Brookville, Indiana died Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio.
Born April 12, 1915 in Cincinnati, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Charlie & Sophia (Grimes) Sandlin. On May 12, 1934 she was united in marriage to Leonard Wells, and he preceded her in death on January 27, 1993.
She was a homemaker, and lived most of her life in Franklin County, Indiana. In her leisure time Mattie enjoyed walking, working puzzles, and having fun with her family and friends.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Sparks, Freda Culver, and Carol (Ralph) Lohrey all of Brookville, Indiana; one son, James Wells of Brookville, Indiana; 14 Grandchildren 30 Great-Grandchildren and 20 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Leonard, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald & Mary Wells; a daughter-in-law, Irene Wells; two sons-in-law, Sherman Sparks & Chester Culver three sisters, Nellie Lovins, Thelma Collier, and Sue Messer; three brothers, Robert Sandlin, Delsie Lee Sandlin, and William Sandlin; as well as two great-great grandchildren, Serenity Miller and Kieley Parker.
Pastor Rob Edwards of the Buena Vista Baptist Church will officiate the Funeral Services on Sunday, December 23, 2012, 2:00 P.M., at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 24, 2012 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
Family & friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the Services at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Franklin County E.M.S. or the Buena Vista Baptist Church.
